How To Protect Your Hair In Summer

How To Protect Your Hair In Summer

There are everyday activates that can expose your hair to damage like gel, hair dryers, curling irons, hair spray, and more. In the summer you’re also exposing your hair to heat, sun, wind, humidity, and chlorine as well.

Summer is about being in the outdoors but this could lead to more damage to your hair. Between picnics with your family, pool parties, and all other outdoor activities here are some tips that you can do to take care of your hair.

Avoid Dry Hair

The sun, chlorine from pools and saltwater will take the moisture out of your hair, even the healthiest ones. To combat this, keep your hair hydrated by drinking lots of water and using hydrating conditioners.

Prevent Chlorine Damage

The best way to spend your summer is in a pool but this also means you are exposed to more chlorine. Think of your hair as a sponge – it can only absorb so much water before it stops. So a good solution is to get your hair as wet as you can before going into the water, this way it will absorb less chlorine.

Another method is to rinse your hair with the coldest water you can stand before you step out of your shower. This will close your hair cuticles and lock in conditioner that you applied.

Apply Sunscreen for Scalp and Hair

Tanning is another great way to spend summer. But the exposure to the UV rays can dry your hair and fade your hair color. This summer, purchase a shampoo and conditioner that protects your hair against UV rays. Better yet, wear a hat to protect your scalp and hair.
